This is a series of different drapes-referencing a paper mache type construction.

I started to experiment with mummy type drapes to allow a non uniform aesthitic. I think this will be much more effective than the overall drape I did earlier. It will show a broken up nature of the image which I need in order to only hint of a mass.

Developments with Extrusion and Drape.

Drape from the top.

The imprint image of the face hints to a mass once being present, but now only its space remains. This appeals to what im trying to show.

Project_03: part 3: To explore the illusion of volume in a mask of Marc Newson.

The perceived volume of a draped mask will best show the negative space I have been trying to emphasise in several of my earlier Rhino drawings. The face will be removed from behind the draped mask, leaving only a void, however its impression will remain unchanged giving the image an appearance of volume.

-these images,(furniture and clothing by Marc Newson, lower drawings by myself) show the perceived volume of a mass that has been removed or is intended. The sculpture, for me, shows a large mass devoid of a large volume. These all reflect my initial concept.

The idea of Lego construction as Boolean Union.

These images(google image, unknown sites) show the simple union between objects. this is similar to the Boolean Union command in the equation A+B+C.

A+B+C process

This and the series of drawings below reference the idea of lego construction through the unplanned small scale that they turned out.

A+B+C process

This series of drawings show my use of the 'Boolean Union' as addition in the equation. The idea of Lego construction as simple addition seemed to influence my ideas. I started by performing the union between A(cone) and B(doorstop) then that combination unioned with C (cubes with plane-building). As each progresses I experiment with rotate, copy and scale. I initially went overboard with copying the unioned objects and felt it was not heading toward an apex, so i went back a few steps to where only scale had been used with one copy.
I felt this was more the defining apex of the drawing. This was mainly because the idea of union seem quite simple so commands a simple image. The process runs from the bottom .

A plus B plus C: the final composed of only several rotates and copies. I found its simplicity shows the apex of the union command.

PROJECT 2: A + B + C, Final.

The Wasp nest shows the combination of area and negative space which influenced the development of A - B - C.

A-B-C process

This process shows the use of the Boolean command difference. I started with the same A, B and C shapes. Firstly using the difference after merging A and B, then merging C with the A and B combination. The idea i gained from my research was the idea of a beehive/wasp -nest or honeycomb. Its made up of a large amount of negative space. I related this to my drawing process through repeatedly merging each object together then creating the negative space through the difference that was left. The apex was reached when the object gained a spherical shape while remaining at a smaller scale-not to seem to take away from the negative space aspect. The process is from bottom to top.

A-B-C final: i feel this reaches its apex by still remaining in smaller scale along with the negative space created through the Boolean difference.

PROJECT 2: A - B - C, Final.

The idea of the exploding light bulb influenced the use of the intersection command in the equation: A - B / C.

The moment the fragments seperate from one another is what im working on. The image still has the basic resembance of a general mass but is actually filled with nothing but space.
